For product marketing and sales

Build vs Buy Intelligence

Your buyers are weighing building your product themselves. Steve shows you exactly how they would, and how you win the deal anyway.

The problem

Your hardest competitor has no logo

The deal was moving. Then a buyer said this.

“We'll just build it ourselves with Claude.”

  • The next call slips, then the one after
  • No logo, no product page to study
  • Reps walk in with nothing prepared

Frequently asked questions

Why treat an in-house build as a competitor?

Because it stalls deals like one. When a buyer says "we'll just build it ourselves with Claude," the next call slips. The in-house build has no logo, no product page and no battle card, so reps walk into that conversation with nothing prepared.

What is a build path?

A build path is one realistic way your buyers could rebuild your product in-house instead of buying it. Each one shows how it works, who builds it, the setups they would use and how likely buyers try it: High, Medium or Low.

How does Steve find the build paths?

Steve reads your website. It reads your key pages to learn what you do and who you do it for, and asks you questions when the site is thin. Then it works out each way your buyers could rebuild you, from one PMM with Claude to a project that needs engineers.

What is on each battle card?

Each build path gets its own battle card: what they give up by building, the objections your reps will hear with an answer to each, landmine questions to ask, and when building is the right call.

What is the sample?

The sample runs Build vs Buy Intelligence on Steve itself, so its build paths are the ways our own buyers could rebuild us. It is built from public data only, and this page shows path 1 and its battle card from it.

Can I forward the deal steering to sales leadership?

Yes: deal steering is written so you can forward it to your head of sales as it is. For discovery, evaluation and negotiation it says what your reps will hear when a build path comes up, and what to ask or say next.

Where does the data come from?

It is built from public data only: your website and public web signals about how teams build tools like yours. Steve uses no private sources, and every claim about a specific company links to the public page it came from.

What changes when we add our documents and calls?

Steve sharpens every build path, quote and battle card to fit your deals. You pick the PRDs, documents and sales calls Steve reads, and it uses them as evidence next to the public data.

Does it work with HubSpot and Salesforce?

Yes: Steve links the build-vs-buy battle card on the HubSpot or Salesforce deal, so your reps open it from the deal. It also spots build-vs-buy talk in those deals and in sales calls you record with tools such as Gong and Zoom.

What happens when build-vs-buy talk shows up in a deal?

Steve tells your PMM in Slack, Teams or email. If the deal is lost to an in-house build, it gets its own loss reason, "Lost to in-house", so you can count those deals next to every other reason you win and lose.

How do I get one for my company?

Enter your website in Steve and get your build paths there. Or request it with the form on this page: give us your company website and a work email, and our team builds your build paths and battle cards from public data only, then emails you the link.
